We use 1.0mm thick CHROMEXCEL leather, a representative leather made by HORWEEN (Horween) of the USA, which has been tanned using traditional methods that have remained unchanged for over 100 years. The tanner carefully selects only steerhide raw hides of 2.5mm thickness or more from a large quantity of raw hides, and the selected raw hides are finished with a combination tanning process. A special oil, an original blend of four or more types of oils, including beef tallow, beeswax, vegetable oil, and fish oil, is then applied and permeated into the leather to create the special "Chromexcel leather." The leather is carefully and slowly infused with oils, taking time and effort at the leather's own pace. This results in a unique high-grade leather that cannot be compared to other leathers, despite its high strength and thickness, due to its high oil content and plump softness, which belies its substantial feel. This is a hill-dyed tea-core leather, and you can enjoy the aging process unique to tea-core leather, where the underlying color emerges with continued wear/use.
