This bag is crafted from domestically produced horsehide, first tanned in a pit tannin process and then drum-tanned twice to further enhance the tannin penetration. It uses a khaki core leather base, dyed khaki in large pieces. It is then sprayed with a black cracking paint, creating a hard finish that makes it easier to crack. The manufacturing process is carefully crafted to minimize cracking (though some cracking is inevitable from the start). Because this bag is intended for frequent hand use, it is finished in a plain state, allowing the owner to personalize the bag with the creases that occur with use, creating a unique vintage leather look. The final process involves spraying a solvent to prevent cracking.
