The base leather used is a high-quality domestic steerhide, tanned with white tannin. Furthermore, by re-tanning it with several types of vegetable tannins, including mimosa, and adding oil, it achieves a supple texture that is not typically found in steerhide. In addition to the soft and light feel of the leather, it is also skived to a thinner-than-usual 0.6mm thickness. Even for a shirt blouson with a drop-shoulder silhouette designed for an oversized fit, this creates a silhouette without an unpleasant stiffness or bulkiness.
The highly flexible base material is then garment-dyed in grey. Even after undergoing shrinkage dyeing, it retains an extremely soft feel. After size adjustment, each piece is further dyed black by spraying dye, and finally, a new vintage process is created by hand-shaving and wrinkling each piece using a special solution to achieve a realistic used look. This novel method, realized by using a base leather rich in oils, results in an unparalleled aged texture.
This is a collaboration between Yohji Yamamoto and Backlash, creating a classic shirt blouson based on a design/pattern from the Yohji Yamamoto collection. The design remains the same, and similar to the fabric models from Yohji Yamamoto, it is a long length but uniquely features no seams even in leather. This collaboration incorporates Backlash's acclaimed processed leather technology into Yohji Yamamoto's designs.
