High-quality domestic steerhide raw hides are tanned with white tannin to create a raw leather base. In addition to several types of vegetable tannins, including mimosa, oil is then added and the leather is re-tanned, resulting in a supple texture that cannot be achieved with ordinary steerhide. Based on a highly flexible leather base, the product is garment-dyed, shrinking the body width by 14cm and the length by 9cm to create an appealing texture, while achieving an extremely soft touch and even more supple feel. In addition to the black color from the dyeing, the leather, which is rich in oil, creates a deep black color. The soft and light feel of the leather, combined with the 0.6mm thickness adopted to achieve the lightness of a coat, allows for casual and easy wear. Despite its large size, we use high-grade leather with very few imperfections, allowing for a luxurious and bold construction with a single vertical panel, eliminating the need for horizontal seams (switches).
Leveraging the soft and light properties of the leather described above, a collaborative trench coat based on a Backlash pattern is being developed. Based on vintage trench coats that exude a masculine atmosphere with a blend of old and new wisdom, the design is minimalist, eliminating unnecessary details. The silhouette infused by Yohji Yamamoto creates a special presence in this piece. By making the leather 0.6mm thick, even with this amount of leather, it is lighter than it looks and can be worn casually with a relaxed feel. In addition to fastening with the belt, an internal belt allows for different styling options, maintaining the shape even when the outer belt is removed.
