The base is made from high-quality domestic steerhide, tanned with white tannins. The leather is then further tanned with several types of vegetable tannins, including mimosa, in addition to oil, resulting in a supple texture not found in typical steerhide. The extremely flexible base is then dyed to a finished product, shrinking the width by 14cm and the length by 9cm, creating a refined texture while still retaining an extremely soft feel and an even more supple finish. The black color achieved through dyeing, combined with the leather's generous oil content, creates a rich, deep black color. The soft, lightweight feel of the leather, combined with the 0.8mm thickness intended for the pants' strength, allows for an extremely light fit, making them comfortable to wear.
Taking advantage of the soft and light characteristics of the above leather, the collaboration has produced drape pants, an essential element of the Yohji Yamamoto collection. Although the pants have a large silhouette, by making the most of the characteristics of the material, they are much lighter than they appear, despite the amount of leather used, and can be worn with a casual, relaxed feel. The design recreates the drape that can only be achieved by using large pieces of leather. With a silhouette that is symbolic of the brand, this item breaks the conventional notion of leather pants in a good way.
