Kangaroo suede leather is a representative leather material routinely used in BACKLASH's Spring/Summer season collection. The kangaroo leather used by BACKLASH is sourced from kangaroos inhabiting the southern regions of Australia, where there are fewer barbed wire fences and thus fewer scars, compared to those in the northern regions. Despite its light and soft texture, the highly durable kangaroo leather allows it to be skived to a thinness of 0.4mm, providing a fit that feels unlike any other leather product. The suede is also meticulously processed, offering a smooth touch. As the leather is light and breathable, it can be worn comfortably even in the hot and humid Spring/Summer seasons. The product is intentionally left unwash-processed; washing it will add unique wrinkles and create a seasoned aesthetic.
For this collaboration, we developed colors that emphasize dyeing for the above material. For the "Gray" color, black is unevenly sprayed after the leather is dyed gray. For the "Purple" color, red and blue are unevenly sprayed after the leather is dyed purple. This two-stage dyeing creates a deep texture with a contrasting gradient.
A zippered long shirt pattern from the Yohji Yamamoto collection has been produced by BACKLASH. By using kangaroo suede leather, which has a very similar texture to fabric, it offers beautiful drape and smooth movement when worn, just like woven fabric. Thanks to its double-zip specification, its appearance can be altered by opening and closing it, making it a versatile item that can be coordinated as a light outer layer depending on the season.
